Hurghada is a year-round dive destination, which is the whole point of the Red Sea. There is no rainy season and no cold shutdown, so the real question is not whether to come but which month suits you.
Here is what changes through the year: water temperature, visibility, marine life and how busy it gets.
When is the best time to dive in Hurghada?
You can dive in Hurghada all year. The water is warmest from June to October (27 to 29 C) and coolest from January to March (21 to 22 C). Visibility is best in autumn. Late spring and autumn are the sweet spot, with warm water, great visibility and quieter reefs.
Water temperature month by month
Summer (June to September) is warmest, 27 to 29 C, and many divers wear just a shorty wetsuit. Autumn (October, November) stays warm at 25 to 27 C. Winter (December to March) drops to 21 to 23 C, still easy but a 5 mm wetsuit is smart. Spring (April, May) climbs back to 24 to 26 C.
None of it is cold by European standards. Even in January the Red Sea is warmer than most summer seas in northern Europe.
Visibility through the year
Visibility in Hurghada is good all year, usually 15 to 30 metres. It peaks in autumn, when the water is calm and plankton is low, and 30 metres plus is common.
Windy spells, mostly in spring, can stir up the shallows for a day, but the boat simply moves to a sheltered site.
Marine life by season
Reef life is there every month: turtles, morays, lionfish and clouds of anthias. Some highlights shift with the season. Dolphins are around all year at sites like Shaab El Erg. Summer brings warm water and busy reefs. Autumn and winter give calmer wreck days out to the SS Thistlegorm.
Big pelagics like hammerheads are more a southern and offshore Red Sea thing, not a Hurghada reef promise, so treat any sighting as a bonus.
Crowds and prices
Peak tourist months are the European holidays: Christmas, Easter and July to August. Diving still runs fine then, but the town is busier. Late spring (May) and autumn (October, November) give you warm water, top visibility and quieter reefs.

So when should you come?
Want the warmest water and do not mind crowds: June to September. Want the best visibility and calm wreck trips: October to December. Want warm water, good visibility and fewer people: May, October or November. Any of them is a good diving week.
