The course

What this course really gives you

Ask experienced divers about their favourite course and most give the same answer: Rescue. It is the moment diving stops being about you. You learn to watch other divers, read stress before it becomes panic, and act with structure when something goes wrong.

The course is honest work. Theory covers prevention psychology and emergency priorities, then we move to the sea: tired-diver tows, panicked-diver responses at the surface, underwater searches, bringing an unresponsive diver up and across the water while calling the emergency plan. Everything is drilled step by step, then combined into full scenarios where our team plays convincing victims.

You will be tired at the end of each day and measurably better at the end of the course. Rescue graduates dive differently: calmer, more aware, more useful to everyone around them. It is also the gateway to Divemaster, but most people do it simply to become that diver others feel safe next to.

Skills

What you learn

1

See it coming

Most emergencies announce themselves early: fast breathing, wide eyes, fiddling with gear. You learn to spot the signs on the boat and underwater, and fix small problems before they grow teeth.

2

Save yourself first

Cramp removal, gas sharing, unclipping yourself from trouble. A rescuer who becomes a second victim helps nobody, so self-rescue is drilled before anything else.

3

Manage a panicked diver

Approach, evade, control, tow. Panicked divers grab, so you learn to help from angles they cannot reach, at the surface and below it.

4

Run a real emergency

The final scenarios put it all together: missing diver search, surfacing an unresponsive diver, in-water rescue breaths, exit, oxygen and the call for help. You lead, the team responds.

Toughest and best course of my diving life. The scenarios felt real, the instructors played very convincing victims, and the debriefs were honest. I came out a different diver. If you are on the fence, just do it.

Le Rescue ici est du sérieux: scénarios réalistes, briefings précis, et un formateur qui pousse juste ce qu'il faut. Épuisant et génial à la fois. J'ai enchaîné avec l'EFR sur place, tout était bien organisé.

Rescue cursus in 4 dagen gedaan. Zwaar maar fantastisch. Je leert echt anders kijken naar je buddy en de groep. De oefenscenario's op zee waren intens en leerzaam. Dit team weet wat het doet.

Rescue Diver questions

How hard is the PADI Rescue Diver course really?

It is the most demanding recreational course, and that is exactly why divers love it. Expect physical work, thinking under pressure and full days. It is taught step by step though: skills first, scenarios later, and nobody is thrown in unprepared.

What are the prerequisites for Rescue Diver?

Advanced Open Water certification and Emergency First Response (or equivalent CPR and first aid training) within the last 24 months. If your EFR is missing or expired, we run the EFR course alongside your Rescue days.

Do I need to be very fit or a strong swimmer?

Reasonably fit helps, but technique beats muscle in every rescue skill. Towing a diver is about body position and fin technique, not strength. We teach the technique first, then build endurance through repetition.

What if I freeze or mess up a scenario?

That is what scenarios are for. We pause, talk it through, and run it again. Freezing once in training is the best insurance against freezing in real life. The course is pass-by-competence, not pass-by-perfection.

Is Rescue Diver worth it if I never plan to go pro?

Absolutely. Most Rescue students never go professional. They do it because it transforms how safe and aware they are as a buddy, a parent or a partner in the water. Ask any Rescue diver: nobody regrets this course.

The water is 28°C, the visibility is over 30 m, and a boat with your name on it leaves tomorrow at 8 AM.
